Mine and John's parents met today!!! We got pizza after church and had such a good time we decided we needed ice cream as well! My mom and his mom hit it off of course :) And John's brother and my sister were there and made the whole group complete. We shared stories of growing up and where everyone was from and of course football and the usual ridicule of John's Auburn fan-dom. Sigh. What a great day!
Another plus was going to church again for the first time in a while. I actually really enjoyed it and didn't mind the fact that it was a Baptist church, or the fact that it was an overflow of alot of college acquaintances. The fact is that it is just good to be in a good environment with people our age from similar backgrounds that are all trying like we are to have a Christ centered life and stay relevant at the same time. not an easy task thats for sure.
How do you serve God completely while at the same time not becoming a stick in the mud?
yay! Can't wait to hear more about y'alls day when I get home. Glad to hear it all went well though :) I was just telling Greg this morning as we were leaving church that I wanted to get involved in a Sunday School class. I'd like to try a newly-wed class cause I figure it might be good to have some Bible studies relevant to working on developing that relationship. I really want Greg and I to grow closer in our relationship with God, but through sharing that with one another. So, that's where I stand on it all...trying to make my faith less personal and more of a shared experience.
ReplyDeleteI am an Episcopalian, we are very anti stick in the mud :) . I feel like God has a sense of humor, and this life was meant to be enjoyed. I feel like God has enough forgiveness and grace to go around; so I try my hardest and know that it is enough, right now, exactly how I am. This helps me strive to move forward and to better myself, without getting caught up in little minutiae of whether or not I am a "good Christian," which can totally slow a person down and derail all kinds of awesome works.
ReplyDeleteI am currently in a Bible-related book club-esque thing. We are reading the Lost Women of the Bible by Carolyn Custis James. I'd recommend it, so far. It's certainly something women would get more out of I'd imagine, but there are parts guys can appreciate if they are open to it.
